30 and AWESOME!

I have changed.
I got a revelation about relationships and have been able to move beyond an emotional barrier that has hindered me for years...
I read a book that has broadened my thinking and helped me move toward a more enriched relationship with God...
I have overcome a major fear in my life and am, one by one, attacking the fears that remain...
And I am enjoying each day more than I ever have...

When discussing this with my sister, I was marveling at how all of this has really manifested in the last two months of my life and realized that two months ago is when I turned 30. I then turned to my sister and declared "Who knew that when you turn 30... you get AWESOME!?" (I certainly didn't.)

I will say that I am having an absolute blast. I'm loving life and so looking forward to what is next to come! ...Perhaps my living is no longer "pretend". :)

Natural Beauty

Today's post is about hair.
My hair. My natural, African-American hair and how I've learned to love it. :) Maybe I'll tell the long emotional story of my "decision" and "the big chop", but not today. Today I want to show the style I managed to achieve.

Funny enough, today I just watched this video from my favorite hair blogger explaining how to get this look. It's pretty much exactly what I did. :)

Anyone have a favorite hair tip to share?

About the garden...

So... I haven't forgotten to post pics of my veggie garden. It's just that it's been like this:

  • Tuesday poured down rain
  • Wednesday I got home after dark
  • Thursday...
The sun was out and when I went to take a look at my lovely vegetable garden... it didn't look so lovely. :( So I didn't take a picture. (But maybe I'll get bold and show that good and the bad. That's how we grow and learn, right?

Well, I did get most of my other plants potted. Put our herbs that we started from seed in a planter and other things which are more interesting to see than to read about. So there'll be pics of those things as well.

Hubby came home and I realized I'd lost track of time. Still managed to make this new recipe come out successfully.

My version came out much more... green. But it was very tasty and highly delicious.

By the way, does anyone have tips on nurturing a veggie garden in the NW?

It must be spring

My husband and I are pretending to be aspiring gardeners. We've planted some herb seeds and bought some veggie plants that have been waiting to get put in the ground. Today after work the thing I wanted to do most was work in my not-yet-existing garden. So, I went at it. My love came home and joined in (we're still discovering hidden garbage and general unwanted things around the house and yard). Long story short, we(He) cleared a lovely spot in the yard, the veggies have a home and it was too dark to get a picture - I'll post one tomorrow. :P

Then, Husband made this masterpiece!
He doesn't work with recipes, so I'll just list off the stuff he "threw in": Chicken, broccoli, cabbage, baby carrots, baby corn, orange peppers, garlic, fresh ginger, sriracha, soy sauce, salt, pepper, "a little bit of" sesame ginger vinaigrette... That's all I remember.

A gift of life

Some beautiful friends of mine recently had their first child, an adorable baby girl. *yeay!*
I got the gumption to make a gift for the baby and decided on this cool crocheted hooded blanket (which my husband calls a Jedi robe). :)
It took me two days to complete and I (and more importantly, the new mama) ended up quite pleased with the finished product.

I see more crocheting in my future. :)

I've been caught!

It seems my ways have caught up with me and I'll soon be locked up for "good" unless I can make $3000 bail (for the Muscular Dystrophy Association). I have until May 10th and need all the help I can get!

Your tax deductible donation will help MDA continue research for treatments and cures for various neuromuscular diseases. You can make a donation online and track my progress via my personal fundraising page. Anything you can do, from $5, $20, $100 or more would be a great help. Even simply spreading the word and letting others know what I'm doing would be wonderful!

Your donations and support are greatly appreciated. Also, please don't tell my folks!

No introductions, please

One year ago, I barely cooked twice a month. These days I'm averaging three days a week - and actually enjoying it (!) I won't say the secret is to get married, but... that's what did the trick for me.
This was the pretty little number I dished up this evening.

Kale with Sausage and White Beans (recipe)
I asked my husband to send me some ideas and this was one of them.

This was my very first encounter with kale and I'm quite happy with how it turned out. :) Does anyone else have a kale recipe or dish that you particularly enjoy?
